Blog Talk vs. Company Privacy

I was recently asked about how I chose what I posted about -- referring to company privacy. I noted that I won't mention the company I work for. I probably would hesitate to even mention the industry the company works in. In fact, the less I mention about it, the less possibility of any impropriety, regardless of intent.

What I will mention is that I work for a place that develops web applications. I'm on a Scrum team, that was fairly recently formed, and we're growing in our capabilities. I'll talk about the development environment and tools and practices, but I won't mention specifics. I certainly won't mention names. If there are code samples, they will be written from home, and non-derivative (unless derived from other third-party open source / public domain code, but this will be attributed).

And the primary rules? The unbreakables? I wouldn't talk about personalities of people I work with, positive or negative. And never post during business hours. Some companies permit this; I am unsure if the company I work for does, but there's less risk of proof of misappropriation if the posts are never made during work hours, much less with company-owned hardware.
